Silverlake Estate's Official Booking Partner Funds 25,000 Trees, Mangroves & Sea Kelp
Habitat Escapes, the official booking partner for Silverlake Estate, has now helped fund an incredible 25,000 trees, mangroves and sea kelp with Play It Green since launching the initiative in late 2022. That is a strong result for the business and for the holidaymakers who have chosen to be part of it.
When guests book a Habitat Escapes holiday, they can choose to add a £3 donation at the point of booking. That £3 funds the planting of six nature-based solutions through Play It Green, made up of trees, mangroves and sea kelp, with 10% of the related revenue given back to Dorset & Cotswolds Wildlife Support. So the action supports nature repair internationally and supports local nature closer to home, too.
It has worked because the fit is right. Habitat Escapes attracts holidaymakers who already care about nature, place and making more thoughtful choices, so this feels aligned with the brand and easy to support.
About Habitat Escapes
Habitat Escapes was always well placed for something like this, as the business already has a close connection to nature, lower-impact living and holiday experiences that feel more thoughtful. Lower Mill Estate in The Cotswolds and Silverlake in Dorset both appeal to people who want more from a break than just somewhere to stay, and who care about the setting and the wider experience around it.
That is a big part of why this has gained traction. The initiative feels aligned with the wider brand, and it gives holidaymakers a simple way to connect their stay to practical action.
Climate Impact Across Four Countries and Three Nature-Based Solutions
Each £3 donation supports six plants, and every three plants include one tree, one mangrove and one sea kelp, so the impact reaches land, coast and sea rather than sitting in one place.
On land, support goes into fruit trees and agroforestry in Senegal. Along the coast, mangrove restoration takes place in Kenya and Tanzania. In the sea, kelp regeneration is supported in Canada with Indigenous partners. That gives Habitat Escapes guests a wider story to be part of, and it means the action supports biodiversity, habitat recovery and carbon rebalancing over time.
Transparency and Blockchain
One of the strongest parts of this story is that it is not vague. Guests are not being asked to throw money into something unclear and just hope for the best. The impact sits inside a model built around visibility and tracking, so Habitat Escapes can talk about it with confidence, and customers can see there is real substance behind the offer.
The planting work is backed by blockchain verification through Veritree, which helps protect accuracy and helps prevent double-counting. That gives the initiative more credibility and moves the story away from nice-sounding claims and into something measurable.
Social Impact
The value here is not only environmental. The projects linked to the planting create social impact too, which gives the whole initiative more depth.
That includes jobs, livelihoods and wider community benefits connected to the restoration work, and it includes strong female participation and leadership in the African planting projects. So when Habitat Escapes guests add £3 to a booking, they are helping support ecosystems and people at the same time.
Alongside that, 10% of the related revenue is given to Dorset & Cotswolds Wildlife Support, which means the partnership creates local value as well as international impact.
Long-Term Monitoring Including Bioacoustics
Another strength in this model is that it is built for the longer term. The story does not stop at the point something is planted, and the better question is always what happens next.
Long-term monitoring helps show whether ecosystems are recovering in the way people hope, and bioacoustic monitoring adds another layer by helping track signs of life returning over time. That shifts the focus away from simple numbers and into recovery, biodiversity and measured change.
“Our Habitat Escapes partnership with Play It Green allows our sustainably-focused holidaymakers to be part of something much bigger. Together, we’ve now helped plant over 25,000 trees – a fantastic milestone that shows how small choices can add up to a real, positive impact on the environment.” - Habitat Escapes Operations Director, Henry Rouse
“Habitat Escapes has shown what can happen when the fit is right between a brand, its customers and the action being offered. Their holidaymakers already care about nature and more thoughtful choices, so giving them a simple way to support trees, mangroves and sea kelp through booking has worked brilliantly. Going past 25,000 plants is a strong milestone, and it shows how environmental action, social impact and commercial value can grow together.” - Play It Green Founder, Richard Dickson
